For Your Viewing Pleasure

Postby fuz on July 2nd, 2010, 5:18 pm

As the FNG, I guess I should do a quick introduction. I'm software engineer in Maryland who loves nature photography. I dabble with other types of photography, but the nature stuff is my forte. Most of my posts will probably be photos of mine. I would love to hear feedback on what you see and take requests on what you want to see. If you don't like it, then you can just go home!

Here are some of my pictures:

Can you tell us (especially me) more about the setup? What camera, what lense and so on ;)

Here are some of mine :)

my dear.. between your legs you have an instrument capable of bringing pleasure to thousands and all you can do is scratch it - Th. Beechham to a chello player.

It ain't the fall that gets you. It's the sudden stop at the bottom.

For the water drop picture, I used my 8.2mp Canon Rebel EOS (I think its EOS) with a 28-75mm wide angle lens with a macro lens attachment. It wasn't actually a macro lens, the things I have are pretty much magnifying glasses that I can attach to my lens (since I'm too poor right now to actually buy a macro lens). They seem to work pretty well, although a real macro lens would of course be better.

Basically to get that shot, I filled my bathroom sink with some water, added some black dye to the water, and let the faucet slowly drip. I probably took about 75-100 pictures to get that one. It's pretty difficult to shoot the droplets hitting the water at the exact right moment. So basically, it's hit or miss.

Here are a few more of my pictures...

Amazing pictures.. I love the last one with the glowing flower.. how did you do the light setup? Was it photoshoped afterwards or is it out of camera?

That one was done using a black light and a red laser and about a 10-15 second(somewhere around there) exposure. No photo editing done there. I try to take pictures like that without having to use any type of editing software to get those effects. Black lights and lasers are so much fun to work with. I highly recommend experimenting with them.

Here are a few more using black lights and red lasers (obviously no red laser on the last one though). In the middle picture, I just held the red laser at the ground to get that glowing effect.

I am seriously feeling completely untalented at this point. But I LOVE these pics (my dad was a professional photographer, and my brother followed him into the field - now my daughter is asking for a camera for her 18th birthday, so she can capture her upcoming 42 day trip to Germany).

I plan on stealing some for wallpapers for my iPhone!! <3

No, it's a type of grass called Juncus Effusus Spiralis or Lesser Corkscrew Rush. I love that plant...it makes for really good pictures.
