I just came back from the theater, watching Avatar. This is definetaly a must have seen movie, with brilliant animations and superb 3D effects!
If you haven't seen it yet, got out and watch it. It is a stunning movie. 2 or more thumbs up!

In few words.. Cameron took different stories and packed it pretty well together. It is nothing very special but interesting enough to make a movie for 2 1/2 hours.

The story, IMO, is a standard one. Advanced aggressive race invading the lands of a peaceful, with nature race to exploit land/resources. High tech vs. nature sort of thing where nature ends up winning. Rather predictable and well used plot. It's not a bad thing, but it just wasn't new. What was new was the filming style and it worked very well for this movie. No cheesy things coming out of the screen right at you sort of thing. But it built this beautiful world and the use of the 3-D allowed it to draw people in more to that world. Overall, I did really like the movie. I thought plot lines where a little simplified and some things which should be explained more should have been. And other areas could have been eliminated. I think the movie was well too long and there were several areas which seemed more like pointless filler than anything else. Decent movie though, definitely worth seeing in 3-D.

The 3d animation is worth seeing for sure. As for the story, if you've seen fern gully, you know the story. Replace Zack with... marine guy, Krista with... blue chick, and Robin Williams with... that lanky guy or one of the flying things.

I've never seen Fern Gully. Wasn't Tom Cruise in that?

I read rumours that there will be an Avatar 2. It won't be on Pandora. Thats all I heard so far.. but it possibly could all turn out in a completely different way.

I read that there definitely will be, and that it WILL be on Pandora...weird.

Got a nod for Best Picture. Thing is, it's up against District 9, which was a FAR better story...I'd have to vote for that one, or maybe even "Up"...

I didn't like District 9. The story was way too weird for me. Same as Crank.. crazy, nuts and what ever :)
Guess, I am more the romatic guy, if it comes to movies ;) Wait.. not too romantic... I mean.. comon.. I am still a guy :-P

I know a lot of people didn't like District 9 but I thouht the story was incredibly well done - they created a race of aliens that looked so disgusting, like cockroaches, that we'd instinctively be repelled by - and by the end they showed us the humanity in them - the father with his son for example. They didn't rely on making the aliens cute and fuzzy to get our sympathy, instead they took us through both experiences - the human side and the alien side, and showed how interconnected they are.

Or maybe I'm just full of baloney - but the little kid alien was awesome
